Getting Started with Denton Public Library

Welcome to Denton Public Library! This page will help you get started using and exploring the library.

What Can I Get?

Physical Items

We have so many things you can check out of the library! What you can check out depends on what type of library card you have.

We have physical books, Discovery Kits, music, movies, audiobooks, wi-fi hotspots and more. You can see all of these by stopping by or looking in our catalog.

All items check out for 3 weeks at a time and can be renewed up to 10 times if your account is in good order (not expired, nothing overdue, and no unpaid fees) and no one else has a hold on them.

Digital Items

We also have digital media you can check out! You can access these from anywhere on your devices.

Check out 10 e-books or e-audiobooks at a time with cloudLibrary.

Check out up to 5 e-books, e-audiobooks, movies, music albums, and more per month with hoopla.

Borrowing and Returning

Hold It!

Is what you want currently checked out? No problem! You can place a hold through our catalog or in cloudLibrary. The number of holds you can place depends on your library card.

You will be notified when your holds are ready for check-out. Come in to the library to check out physical items, or go to cloudLibrary to check out digital titles.

The Library Doesn’t Have It!

If we don’t have what you want, you can either request that we purchase it or use our Interlibrary Loan service to request it from another library.

Bringing It Back

You can return physical items to any of our three library locations. Each branch has a book drop inside and outside the building. Just push your items through the book drop's slot to return them. North Branch also has a drive-thru window you can use to pick up holds and return large items.

Oh No, It’s Overdue Or Lost!

If you forgot to turn in an item on time, don’t worry! We don't charge late fees. However, you won’t be able to check out anything new, place holds, or renew anything until you return your items. So be sure to return them as soon as you can.

If you have lost an item or if it is 45 days overdue, you will be charged for the cost of the item.

If you are charged a fee and don't pay it within 60 days, your account may be sent to collections and charged a collection fee.

If you have lost an item, please note that we don't accept replacement items.
