1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
It’s never too early to start reading to your child.
Reading to preschool-age children builds vocabulary, language skills, and helps prepare them with the skills they need for Kindergarten.
In as little as 15 minutes a day, families can build the skills for future school and life success.
What is it?
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is an early literacy program that encourages families with children ages 0 to 5 to read to their children every day.
Who can participate?
The 1,000 Books program is open to all children from birth until they start kindergarten.
Can I really read 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten?
Yes!
If you and your child read just one book a night, you will have read 365 books in a single year.
That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years!
How to Sign-Up

Go to denton.readsquared.com

Click on "Register".

On the screen asking “Who would you like to register?” select “Myself and Children”.

Create a new adult account.
Select the “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” program.
Provide your name and email address, and create a username and password.
For the username, use your first name, last name, and 1000. For example, RexWard1000.

Create one account for each child.
For the child(ren), pick the same program.
You can use the same e-mail address for all of the accounts.
Create new usernames and passwords for all of the child accounts as well.
Please select a username for each child using the same instructions as above (firstname, lastname, then 1000). For example, JaneWard1000.

When you have added all of the children, select “Done adding children”.

250 books = 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten book bag

500 books = A free book

750 books = Color changing cup

1000 books = A certificate of completion, a free book, a hand puppet, and an invitation to the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony, held annually!

What if we read the same book multiple times?

It is ok to read the same book over and over again.
Children love to read and reread familiar stories, and often gain different perspectives the more a book is read.
Feel free to record the book in Readsquared every time it is read.

How long will the program take?

This is a self-paced program, that can take anywhere from a few months to a few years.
It depends on how often you read together.

What should I read?
